Food Donation Guidelines

SAME Café Denver is classified and regulated by the local and state agencies as a restaurant. All donations of food require an “in kind” or “food exchange” donation receipt filled out, so that all food donations can be traced back to their source. If you are donating purchased food, an accompanying receipt is preferred and it must be sealed and unexpired.

  • Produce

    • Partner Farms: fresh, local, unprepared, just harvested, organic fruits and vegetables.

    • Meal Participation Exchange: fresh, unspoiled, unprepared fruits or vegetables in factory sealed bags. If these are not packed in sealable bags for resale, all fresh produce must have the local address of the home garden or community garden in which the produce was grown.

    • Foraged Mushrooms: Mushrooms that have been foraged must be inspected by an Approved Licensed Mushroom Expert and labeled safe by the inspector.

  • Non Perishable Food Items:

    • Boxed, canned, or dried goods such as beans, gluten free pasta, olive oil or flour.

    • Organic and low sodium items are preferred.

  • Perishable Food Items: 

    • Frozen Foods: Must be received frozen from the facility from which they came until delivered to the café

    • Refrigerated perishables: We can accept refrigerated perishables that have been kept at 40 degrees or below from the facility in which they came until delivered to the café.

    • Meat/ Game: All meat from local ranches or from hunting must have been slaughtered at a FDA/USDA inspected facility and be labeled/packaged accordingly.

    • Eggs/Dairy: All eggs and dairy must come from a USDA certified processing facility. The packaging must indicate the address and date items are packaged and have a use by date. 

Where to Donate: Drop off your produce at the café on Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Please stay and sign our donation form (required by Health Department).
